This video is such a great reminder of how important it is to set the right foundation before a first date. One thing I’ve found incredibly helpful is focusing on the experience rather than the outcome. It’s so easy to get caught up in the ‘what ifs’ and start fantasizing about the future, but that can lead to unnecessary pressure and disappointment.

For anyone struggling with overthinking or anxiety before a first date, here’s a practical tip: create a pre-date checklist to ground yourself. For example:

What’s one thing I’m curious to learn about him?

What’s one thing I want to enjoy about the experience (e.g., trying a new restaurant, having a fun conversation)?

What’s one boundary I want to set for myself (e.g., no sexual talk, no oversharing)?

This helps shift the focus from ‘Will he like me?’ to ‘How can I enjoy this moment and stay true to myself?’ It’s also a great way to build confidence and reduce anxiety.

Another strategy I’ve found helpful is limiting pre-date communication. As Stephan mentioned, too much texting or calling can create a false sense of intimacy and set unrealistic expectations. Instead, save those deeper conversations for the date itself, where you can read body language and gauge chemistry more accurately.

What’s one thing you do to prepare for a first date that helps you stay grounded and present? Sharing your experience might help others approach dating with more confidence and clarity.

A ft or phone call before meeting can be a good way to see if you’ll vibe but I 100000% agree with Stephen in not talking too much on the phone IN GENERAL. Same with texting etc. We only have a limited amount of free time and if you let them monopolize your free time it will bleed into your responsibilities.

I don’t tell anyone about a guy until it’s going in the direction to be serious. Then I want to get input from a bestie. At that point they’re usually reaffirming what I’ve been feeling or not and it gives me the courage to pursue forward or cut it off if I’ve been unnecessarily holding on.

Good point concerning talking too much before a first date..

  • @user-fh1tr9zp3l says:

The best were definitely left for last ,just by focusing on the experience on a first date can be magical, this is where enjoyment flows naturally,it’s
    a win win certainly

  • @TawandaClark-ii9ps says:

Having a positive attitude and demeanor is always a plus.

  • @BrendaDavis-bl6cm says:

Oh my God….yes some friends will say everything negative about your date and haven’t even seen him…or even know the person themselves… I guess if they can’t find someone they want you unhappy too….

  • @MaggieChimbwanda says:

Focus on the experience. Thanks Stephan🙏🏽

  • @bessiegilliam6799 says:

Red Flaggg. Never lead with sex. It does not guarantee a connection. We definitely get caught up in the fantasy and that is harder to let go than the sex 😮

  • @jeniffernanlal2013 says:

I truly appreciate this advice. So very true.

  • @shamoriereynolds203 says:

If I had this information 8 years ago things would be different. Everything went fast..just like you stated having sex …staying on the phone for hours and etc..ignored all red flags. We were suppose to marry in 2020 but I couldn’t go through with it due to not being healed from a past trauma marriage. Here I am 5 years later I realize i dont want marriage but he do. Thank God we dont live together….I can go on and on ….I definitely will use this information for the future .and of course taking it to God in prayer! .I am 47 now so I know better!

  • @Passport2Pleasure says:

So much of our communication is non-verbal, love this advice! It can certainly prove more challenging for long-distance relationships, but this is where video dates and planning in-person meetups to look forward to comes in 🙂
