• I was taught in a humanities class once that it comes down to strangers = danger in many European countries.. many invasions and warfare in their histories has created this cultural tendency to distrust strangers immediately on sight.

• On the Orkney islands everyone waves as you go past in a car, l got so used to it I had to stop when l got home in England 😂

• When will you finally grasp the fact that the U.S. is a "peach" society and Poland is a "coconut" type? We don't smile at everyone and ask "how are you" because it's just fakel, what matters to us is sincerity and banging straight what we mean.

  • The kindness in the US is often sincere but it is a passing kindness meant to be taken as a token of caring and often the acknowledgement is also a sign of respect and an approach of open friendliness towards strangers is taught. Many foreigners, especially Europeans do not understand that this is not an invitation for lifelong friendship or for us to follow up with a coffee where we swap life stories. It really is just a passing and momentary kindness, this for some reason makes people very uncomfortable. It is weirder to me to stand next to someone at a bus stop and to be completely silent, a simple hello and a smile never hurt anyone.

• Yes in the eastern part of Europe is this true ,but if u do this in Slovenia is normal to greet ppl on the streets especialy in the small towns or if u go hiking in the mountains this is a expected to do. 🇸🇮

• People are very friendly here in Scotland, they say hello and they hold doors open for you, after hearing these things an so happy to be Scottish xxx

• Well, people in the US say ”How are you” but they don’t wait for the answer 😂

  • @@krumbergify sometimes, for my personal fun, I'll respond with honesty. For example: "I've definitely been better. Today has been a horrible day and I just wish it would end."... most often they are stunned into silence 🤣
