Don’t do THIS in the Netherlands πŸ‡³πŸ‡±

I asked Dutchies on the streets of Utrecht about their most important saying that describes Dutch culture well. Here is what they had to say and what not to do in the Netherlands.

    What about the tolerance? πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

  • @cogitoergosum9129 says:

The same for us germans. Maybe not so strong like them

  • @DimitriTechOfficial says:

but what if i like cheap champagne?

  • @Limpi43 says:

I have mixed feelings with that. If they want to drink champagne, I really don’t care, let them drink it. But if they order champagne just to show off, it’s a habit I’d like it to die off.

  • @bojanstoicevic5374 says:

Normal is relative and Dutch are for the most considered as stingy.

It sounds exhausting monitoring your behaviour constantly for what others think 🫣

  • @zlam9872 says:

Well why don’t you just mind your business, that’s a thing europeans in general should learn even if they hate success

  • @SUpersaiyajinjerkbag says:

Seems oddly conformist for such a progressive country

    • @worldcitizen677 says:

Progressiveness in that sense are just smoke and mirrors for tourists. However, the Dutch have taken a very liberal stance when it comes to LGBTQ population, euthanasia, light drugs. Amsterdam and other cities are having their Red Light Districts, but this is not where you would normally find the locals. In reality, the Dutch are amazing, down-to-earth people, very practical, direct, financially saavy, and they tolerate drunk tourists falling in Amsterdam channels – just for tourism’s sake. But since recently there has been a push to discourage such tourists from coming to visit.

    • @StillRooneyStarcraft says:

Look at the Nordics, they’re really progressive in many regards yet are conformist as hell. Jantelagen and all that.

    • @Dwazedas says:

The β€œprogressiveness” and β€œtolerance” of the Dutch is a complete myth the Dutch try to keep up. Unfortunately, it is far from the truth. The Dutch have voted conservative right for decades and now even voted the extreme-right into office.

      β€œProgressive and tolerant” my behind.

Criticising a bottle of champagne with an IWC watch on your wrist πŸ˜‚

  • @helioflanaganveiga says:

Well, this is rather disappointing. It is a type of European mentality that I absolutely despise. If the people sitting beside you want to order champagne, who the f**k cares? Mind your own f**king business. Good for them as far as I’m concerned. Maybe they are celebrating their anniversary, maybe they like to burn money. Not my business. Should I not order caviar just because the table beside me ordered a cheese sandwich? Should I not buy a Tesla just because others can only afford a tiny car? This type of mentality screams envy and resentment. It’s as though they were saying β€œif we can’t afford that, neither should they.” Honestly, collectivism is a rotting disease that kills society end evolution slowly and it’s a shame that it seems to somehow be embedded in Dutch society.

    • @kape2469 says:

Birthrates are going down because of increasing individualism. Collectivism was the one that helped several cultures to survive.

    • @helioflanaganveiga says:

@@kape2469 collectivism has killed millions under Mao, Pol-Pot, Stalin, Hitler, Castro, Chavez, Kim Jong-Il and Kim Jong Un. Conversely, individualism has saved society from starvation and death. As we approach Thanksgiving, perhaps you should remember the lessons learned by the Pilgrims, who actually learned a very important economic lesson regarding the fact that communal properties do not produce and generate an abundance of goods the same way that private individual properties do, precisely because it is an inherent human function to not care as much about something that is owned communally when compared to something that is owned individually. If you choose to dispute this fact, just think about your house vs the public square. Which one do you keep the cleanest? Which one do you spend the most amount of money, time and energy taking care of?
Birth rates are going down not because of individualism. Birth rates are going down because the roles in society are changing and you can thank the wave of unnecessary feminism for that. Also, perhaps next time try reading a history book before standing up for collectivism. It’s rather embarrassing to witness such idiocy coming out of someone’s mouth.

    • @yourdream8727 says:

I think it’s rather about the Dutch not liking people who try to show off, you won’t impress them with your money as neatly everyone’s rich there (or Western Europe in general)

    • @sucram1018 says:

@@yourdream8727 Why is it assumed. Why not consider that person just wants something else and they’re not trying to show off.

    • @michelleg7 says:

Collectivism works very well in some countries, I know my country has been like that for 500 years and it does ok. We are also a warm friendly people so think what you want about it.

We Dutch don’t want to show-off with the money.

  • @donnunn3150 says:

Being normal is doing what you want. Enjoy your night out. To worry what everyone else is doing or ordering is a real problem. I feel sorry for this couple.

  • @rickmitchell7835 says:

    Sounds neurotic.

  • @michelleg7 says:

That older couple were complete asshats. I am all for honesty but honesty is not rudeness. That was rude period and don’t excuse it as anything else. They were judgemental and rude about a different culture and opinion. You may not like it but that doesn’t mean you can’t be polite. I am all for honesty but there was zero honesty about that, the guy was just showing his prejudice against americans and his wife or girlfriend or whatever she was. That was bad taste with zero class.

    • @greenytaddict says:

I have noticed that they have a lot to say about Americans. In fact whenever I encounter an European they go on rant about our politics. I am pretty apolitical so it has made conversations a little awkward. I get that the US looks like a hot mess but other countries are far worse but don’t seem to get the ridicule that the US does. And I have noticed on other videos that if there are any negative comments about the Netherlands, it will be met with comments that they can do no wrong or that the opposing commenter is wrong.
