I asked people on the streets of Gothenburg what not to do while dating in Sweden, from paying, to faux pas. Here is what the Swedes had to say.

Sooo the women would like to be asked out … but no one does it?

  • @tobiojo6469 says:

    Interesting and informative video

  • @Lucyinthskyy says:

Seems like the guys like the way things are for the most part but it seems like the women are open to more โ€œtraditionalโ€ things like the man asking out and paying for dinner or paying for a drink. Interesting ๐Ÿค”

    • @kylesavage4525 says:

Not for more traditional things in general. Just paying for dinner/coffee etc

    • @Frivals says:

โ€‹@@kylesavage4525they want only the benefits. Females are females in any country

    • @tangfors says:

Swedish man who has dated quite a lot here. It’s no wonder that it’s like that in dating, because even if most things were in the man’s favor
before not everything was, I think many men look forward to, for example that girls take the first step as often as men, or ask men out to the same extent as men do. For many men I think they see it will be one of their gains with more equalit, unfortunately we are not there yet.

    • @cbeary2000 says:

Wait a second, are u saying that even in the most equality based society in the world, where women have more rights than any other country, that they are still not happy? Nooooooo! LOL

    • @malgmroz says:

      Just more lazy

  • @pablolopez9017 says:

I live in Sweden and swedes are generally well intentioned , I am sure they would invite but when you go out with your friends and drinks cost minimum 15 euros it puts the mood down and forces to split a bit
Problem is that the high cost of living for leisure kind of ruins the party mood, and if you invite people รฉventually will give it back to you so it is about to show that we can have a more convivial approach and then Swedes are hooked ๐Ÿค—

    • @markbigelow2608 says:

15 euros for one drink? Thats crazy!

    • @alanjackson2712 says:

In 1998, I had to change planes at Stockholm Airport.
Two small beers for my colleague and myself were more than $16 .
God only knows what it would be now !!

    • @pettersupreme says:

Then imagine a full night out and the concept of splitting the bill ain’t that weird anymore ๐Ÿ™‚

  • @TonyChronicles says:

Love the Scandinavian dating videos, this is so interesting.

  • @Sammi_Kristiansen says:

Thank you Marina. This video is very helpful. I like all your videos in Nordic countries!

  • @zeriul09 says:

the redhead seemed lovely, was uni friends with some swedes, lovely bunch of people

  • @hannahrozenberg3411 says:

Hi Marina! I love your channel and wanted to ask, are you planning on making anymore you know you are dating videos? They are the best, and I would love to see a video about dating a New Zealand man and woman. Have an incredible day and canโ€™t wait to see more videos!

  • @skvalparn says:

Answer to the โ€no one ever buys me a beer/drinkโ€ thing they talk about and preferences.

    1. Swedish girls in most situations when you been here long enough always shut men down in different ways and are very cold, so asking girls out turns into a big negative situation(not worth it) as in other countries.
    2. Tinder desensitise an already very private social structure.
    3. Nothing said as good qualities in this video by the people interviewed is generally seen as something positive in Swedish society.

What nr 3. Is though is something that breaks the norm making it more exotic and if swedish girls likes anything it is something exotic.. for a short while at least ๐Ÿ™‚

      True 100%

    • @Hedna says:

I am Mexican living in Gothenburg, nobody as me out, smile at me, chat with me ๐Ÿ˜… I have 2 years here, still very confused with men here.

    • @MustbeTheBassest says:

โ€‹@@Hednahey, not sure if you need or want my advice, but it seems pretty simple. Men there aren’t going to act that way. If you like a guy, you’re going to have to initiate a little.

  • @Jemike5 says:

Favorite city and excellent format. Appreciate the creativity.

  • @cvsop7338 says:

  • @ParissaKhoury says:

Enjoying the Swedish content. Keep it coming !!!

  • @morgancarlsson5230 says:

In my experience, swedes donโ€™t tend to do the casual dating the way they do in the US. We donโ€™t really date for the sake of it, but rather because we want to get to know that particular person. I also feel like the whole pressure of being in a relationship is a lot less here than in other places, hence when we meet someone it is usually because we like them as a person, and not just because we want a boyfriend or girlfriend.

  • @nelsonthekinger says:

    Great format easy to watch!

  • @dr.random8920 says:

These are great! Can you do Ireland and Scotland next?

  • @Dan_Cara05 says:

moving to Sweden for a couple months this was super useful and fun video๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿฝ

  • @resorband says:

1:00 this accounts for your opinions too. You are not allowed to have your own opinions in sweden and if you stand by values that are slightly different from them they will slowly gravitate away from you. So, my recommendation is keep any opinions you have to yourself until like 3 months into the relationship/friendship and you might get a positive response

  • @lalithamariaperez2937 says:

I really enjoyed it very much!!!!!

  • @KynmundR says:

As a Swede this series of videos talking about Swedish social culture has verily helped me gain a very good perspective on the whole dating situation here (I’m 24) as I’ve been trying to figure it out, decode it in a way. See, I’m not your typical Swede, I’m a traditionalist in many regards, old school, and you guessed it, makes it a lot harder to date here with all the casual hookups.

But now that I’ve gained better understanding, not only of dating in general, but this aspect of Swedish culture in particular, I feel like I should be able to find me a good match (out here in the snow). What really got me was the redhead girl encouraging us guys to not be so Swedish (coconutty) and actually be more direct and more brave. I’ve always been a person who stick out (a long haired creative with a mystic mind) and always been very masculine by nature, so I feel like this won’t be a problem for me now that I got the confirmation that it is actually the better way to go. I’ve naturally already been taking this approach doing cold approaches and generally been more social with strangers, which’s fun, I really like it most of the time, and I can honestly say that I’ve gotten some really great interactions, smiles I’ll never forget.

However, finding a good woman to match my old school standard might prove to be difficult since this culture is so secular and progressive. But who knows, maybe some women out here are tired of meowing around and just want to settle down and have a family, I believe so. Though I might just travel to the eastern countries where traditionalism is already ingrained in the culture, just to better my odds.

    • @user-tz4ik2sr8c says:

      100%

    • @Commentator488 says:

Eastern Europe isnโ€™t traditional as much as you think
There is nothing wrong with your women, and you arenโ€™t better than anyone else because you are traditional. Just be straight forward about what you want and you will find it

    • @Alfiezeka123 says:

You gotta go the religious route then mate. Only the religious girls are still truly conservative. It seems the propaganda of girls whoring themselves is everywhere.
