I have a Portuguese friend who went on some dates with an American guy (I'm also American). She told him she didn't wanna keep dating and just wanted to stay friends. Then she got soooo pissed when he went on a date with someone else. They ended up getting together after that, and I was just as confused as he was when he told me haha

We can be blunt and be considered rude if we speak the same way we do in the north, in Lisbon, for example. Generally speaking, from Coimbra down, I feel people and ways are way more indirect and sinuous than in the north of Portugal. (It’s not better or worst, it’s just different)  [this next part is referencing the video, more than your question] Women in Portugal like to enjoy their time having fun, yes [shock]. And fun might mean to dance just for the sake of dancing, and not necessarily to find a mating partner. In the north, if bothered, we might confront the person that is bothering us or push them way; in the south they might be a bit more polite and do the circle thing to avoid men's interference… idk   Nevertheless, I find the mentality of playing “hard to get” a bit destructive for both ends. To be honest, It’s not nice to say “no” and have guys insisting because they think we are “playing hard to get”… what if she really doesn’t want THAT guy? What if she just wants to have fun? or what if she is a feminine presenting lesbian? I know we are talking about stereotypes, but still… Idk if perpetuating this stereotype of disregarding people’s signals/feelings is actually good and if it is indeed true or if it is rooted in the sexist idea that “women don’t know what they want“. If it's not a clear YES, is still a NO.

In reply to @alexurfantasy. @@louiseleite3866 at least the Portuguese people aren’t that phenotypically different looking from the British and culturally/religiously aren’t that different either . When someone comes from a Muslim or Hindu nation in Africa or Asia, they really stick out and change the atmosphere of a place , you should probably be grateful that there are Portuguese people and not people from a totally different and incompatible society from yours
